Our annual Pet Parade is coming up quickly as well - see pictures of last year’s participants at:
http://www.animalkrewe.org/parade.htm
Our theme this year is “Reigning Cats & Dogs”
Entry fee is $10 per pet. The online registration should be up by the end of December. Online registration saves time and hassle, so we highly recommend it.
The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux’s monthly meeting is December 4th - we are planning our Mardi Gras Jazz Brunch to be held January 13, 2008 at the Barksdale Club, we are creating decorations for the tables, with prizes for the best decorated masks.
We are also working on our t-shirt sponsorships - anyone can sponsor, companies, families, friends, etc. We have a sponsorship package to fit lots of situations. T-shirt sponsorships are tax deductible contributions and we’d be happy to let you know more - email us at: animalkrewe@yahoo.com for more information.
What is Barkus and Meoux?
The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux, Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation whose mission is to develop, foster, and promote programs to benefit abused, neglected, and homeless animals, as well as to promote responsible pet ownership with a spay/neuter program.
How can I get involved?
Monthly meetings are held to discuss local activities. Interested parties are welcome to join us. You can find us the first Tuesday of each month at the Broadmoor Methodist Church at 6:00 PM in Room 200.
What kind of activities does the Animal Krewe sponsor?
We are proud to organize the Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Pet Parade each Mardi Gras season. The Pet Parade is our main fundraiser to help the animals. All help is appreciated. Please call 752-CATS if you can help.
What is the Spay/Neuter Program?
“Spay a Pet & Save a Life.” The Program is designed to provide spay or neuter service to a segment of the population that is economically disadvantaged. The focus is made to serve mainly the elderly or those less fortunate, who have limited financial resources. This is a special community service program to provide assistance to those who are unable to afford to have their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. Spaying and neutering also helps to limit the pet population, thus, in turn, helps prevent neglect and unwanted animals. The Krewe encourages education to the public about being a responsible owner.
In August of 1999, we officially formed our non-profit animal organization to benefit abused, neglected and homeless animals. As you might already know, we sponsor the Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Pet Parade during the Mardi Gras season each year and are now able to promote many more charitable functions throughout the year.
Our small eclectic group is growing by leaps and bounds. Our membership drive is in progress and we want to extend a warm thank you to all of our new members. We are so very thankful for all of our wonderful sponsors and volunteers. Without you we would not be able to accomplish all of our plans for the future. If you have an idea for fund-raising, please pass it along. And please tell all of your friends about us. Together we can make a difference….
The annual Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Pet Parade is now held at RiverView Park during Mardi Gras season. Please plan to attend and join in the FUN. Bring your pets, children, and all of your family and friends. The Pet Parade planning committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Room 200 at 6:00 PM. If you would like to volunteer, please plan to attend or call us at 752-CATS or email us.
We want to applaud our corporate sponsor. If you see Dr. Diane Sino of Sino Chiropractic Health Center, please offer her your thanks.
We always appreciate your donations to the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux and to help our volunteers work more efficiently, we are in need of various office supplies, including: copy paper of any color, a copier, rolls of stamps, and other general office supplies.
We also need donations for the animals at our two local shelters, including dog toys, cat toys, canned puppy/dog and kitten/cat food, and collars. If you wish to donate any of these items, please contact Barkus & Meoux at 752-CATS.
